Sarah Burton, the longstanding creative director and former associate of the late founder Lee McQueen, left the Kering-owned fashion house after her last spring 2024 runway show on September 30th.
Burton, who joined McQueen initially as an intern and later became head of womenswear design, succeeded McQueen after his passing in 2010. She gained recognition for designing Princess Diana's wedding dress. Under Burton's creative direction, the brand embraced a balance of edgy glamour while moving away from its founder's intense darkness. One of my closest friends was a fan of McQueen's under burton's creative direction. Burton's departure marks a significant moment, ending a remarkable 26-year chapter at Alexander McQueen and I am sure it will leave a huge void at the brand.
